1979年 Hall提出了管结石症学说，并试图通过有无疲劳性来区分管结石症和嵴帽结石症。

Hall在模拟半规管中注入水银演示Dix-Hallpike试验。

分析：

Hall认为“In the upright positions,the cupula of the posterior semicircular canal is almost vertical,and when the head is lowered to the test position,the cupular becomes horizontal”,但hall对后半规管壶腹嵴空间方向的描述是错误的。

相反，1980年Epley阐述耳石症学说图示解释了不同体位诱发眩晕，其对后半规管壶腹嵴空间方向的描述是正确的。
